READING NOTE / 03 / Working relationships

THE ARTIST / THE WORK / THE CONTEXT

An artist, a place, a moment.

Read current location and studio context without letting a place name replace the person.

01

Separate the identities

An individual artist and a studio business can be connected while remaining different directory subjects. A person may describe a resident role, a guest arrangement or a past collaboration. Ask which relationship is current instead of inferring it from a logo, a tag or an old photograph.

02

Understand the location claim

A city label is a search starting point, not a confirmed address or an availability calendar. Ask where an initial discussion would actually take place and who is responsible for confirming it. A published portfolio does not mean that every location associated with its images is a current working base.

03

Keep the dates in context

If timing matters to the enquiry, explain the question and obtain a current response. Do not assume that an event, guest appearance or old post establishes present access. Treat actual appointments, travel decisions and commitments as separate arrangements with the responsible person or business.

04

Read the directory’s scope

There are no approved public artist profiles in the current data. Location labels and editorial images do not identify verified members or operating arrangements. A future profile should use authorised information and make its limitations clear, rather than turning a directory entry into a broad endorsement.
