VIEWING ROUTE / 02

THE ARTIST / THE WORK / THE CONTEXT

Black-led compositions

Look at a composition as a whole, and keep the creator of the work in the foreground.

02

This viewing route helps you discuss the black-led work that interests you in an individual portfolio. It is not a technical definition, a ranking or an assessment of competence. Use the category to begin looking, then make your actual reference more specific.

01

Identify the example

Select an image from the creator’s own public work and record its source. Explain what draws your attention to the composition rather than assuming that a category label communicates your entire idea. A reference is a conversation aid; it is not permission to reproduce someone else’s design.

02

Read the surrounding information

Look for the artist credit, project context and any relevant collaboration. Ask whether the example represents the person’s own contribution and current work. A studio account, an old post and a personal portfolio can have different purposes and should not be silently treated as the same record.

03

Ask the responsible person

Confirm who would respond to your enquiry and the setting in which a discussion would take place. Visual interest does not settle practical suitability, availability or the terms of a commission. A directory category is not a verification statement or a promise about an outcome.

TAKE A CLEARER QUESTION WITH YOU

A question worth
asking the creator.

These prompts organise an enquiry. They do not assess competence, establish availability or confirm a commission.

  1. What part of this composition interests me?
  2. Who created and published the reference?
  3. Which actual arrangement needs confirmation?
